COMMUNITY WATER CENTRE
Voices
from the
Field
Every community we impact and every water Centre we set up is special and unique for us and goes through the process of Select, Build, Operate and Transfer for impact
How it Works
Decentralised & Sustainable
Select
1The drinking water issues in the village/habitation are discussed
2The water sample that majority are drinking is tested for contamination
3The results of contamination and the relevant solution to purify water is discussed with the Panchayat and the village at large through a Gram Sabha
4Our model is explained in the Gram Sabha meeting and couple of one to one households basis the principles of Free Prior Informed Consent
5If the village chooses to accept this solution we enter into a seven year MoU
Build
1The Gram Panchayat gives us access to raw water, common areas to set up the water solution, and provides us with an electricity connection
2 With the help of the funds received from CSR donors we set up the drinking water infrastructure
3 The product water is tested for all possible water contaminants before the inauguration of the water solution
We ensure that all the relevant messages about the safety of the drinking water solution are painted on the walls of the water solution itself. Our key messages and some of the pictures of our water centres can be accessed here
For the convenience of our users and to enable 24/7 access, water ATM cards are provided to each user
Operate
1For a period of 07 years, NCWS operates the water centre with utmost quality and care adhering to the regular water tests, preventive maintenance, very less shut down time – and regular hygiene needed to run the water centre
2 The community is explained the need of safe drinking water intervention and WASH behaviours for healthy outcomes
3 A minimal water user fee of Rupees 0.25 paise to 40 paise is levied on the users to ensure sustainable operations
We currently take pride in the fact that our shut down time is less than 0.1%
Some of our behaviour change practices are featured in the 2024 JJM compendium of best practices
At every centre local employment is created
Transfer
107 years down the line, the water centre is transferred to the Panchayat for it to operate and own the asset
330 villages/habitations so far have been empowered to manage their drinking water solutions
